How to Paint Interiors

Painting is something anyone might want to try. You might have seen somewhere a painting company doing some interior painting. Possibly in your office at work or friends home or even on TV. It looks simple right? The painter you saw has a lot of practice and experience which makes it look easy. This painter has developed his painting techniques over the years doing wall painting and trim painting a 1000 times.

If you have an inspiration to paint, first you’ll have to learn how to paint and the things involved in the painting process. You’ll have to decide what type of paint you will be using. You have two choices basically acrylic paint or oil paint. Acrylic paint is a water-based paint which cleans up with water at the end of the day and oil paint is petroleum-based paint that cleans up with varsol or thinner. Generally wall painting is done mostly with latex and this is the majority of the interior painting projects.

There are two ways of painting giving us to different types of results, if you listen to my painting tips on interior painting, the first thing you’ll have to do is do some preparation work before painting the walls. Make sure you have the right painting tools. A good-quality roller and not a cheap one because a cheap one will be hard to work with because it does not hold enough paint and its sprays too much. A good-quality roller is in the vicinity of around $10 for a professional roller and this definitely is a must for painting walls without sprinkling. The next thing is a good quality brush. Again a good-quality brush is made from something other than nylon for acrylic painting.

Generally I use a two half-inch square cut brush from one of the high-end brush manufacturers and it roughly cost about $35-$40. And finally I get a good adjustable solid rolling poll so that when you come to tight places you can contract the poll and when you get to situations where you have to roll high you can expand the pool length. Furthermore you will need this poll if you want to be painting ceiling. So these are the painting tools the pro- painters use in their painting services.

The second way is using cheap painting tools and not worry about how the job looks, And how much over spray you get on the floor and yourself and finally how much extra harder you have to work to get it to cover.

Dos & Don’ts of Interior Painting

In this piece we will cover some of the basic mistakes I’ve made and how to stay out of trouble. One of the first things I learned was that oils don’t mix well with latexes. This may sound like a dumb mistake but I have made it. And there are people on my crew that have made it too. Once this happens the batch is ruined. It won’t mix and it won’t dry. What do we do with it? That’s a tough question. There are sites that take paint and burn it. They charge by the burn rate of the paint. And because it is now just a mess it’s hard to say what the burn rate would be if this mess gets by you and gets applied to wall. I don’t want think about it. Also that is why it becomes clear to label paint can and their uses.

Labeling the can is a good idea, so is finding a good place to store them. Not to just protect the water based paint from freezing, but for safety reasons. Do not leave any open cans of oil-based paints in they area of an open flam. Or the rages used in the clean up of oil paints. Rags with paint thinner on the must be removed from the house! They have been known to start fires spontaneous combustion. The best way to avoid trouble is to soak the in water let them dry outside then dispose of them.

Since we are on the subject of disposing of I will tell you about the do’s and don’t s of getting ride of paint other then at a burn site. That in most county’s it is aloud to put paint into the regular trash, if it is a dry product. That’s right you must dry the paint out first. There are some products on the market now that weren’t five years a go and we had to do this they old fashioned way by painting them out on something then getting ride of them. The new products mix into the wet paint and react with the drying agents already in the paint to speed them up. So far I have only seen this technology in the latex paints and not the oil based ones. With them it’s still they old way. But there is one small solution that I have used and you can decide for your self-if wish to use it. What I have done is buy some spill absorbent and mix the wet oil base paint into it a little at a time and keep mixing it. To let air in and aid in it’s drying.

The disposal of paint water from cleaning tools. I am not going to recommend putting them down your drain because most epa agents and county water services from on this practice. If your act responsible and use your head when dealing with these issues then you’ll stay safe.

Let’s talk about drying times for a moment. The basic importance of drying times are as I stated before can cause a mess in our cut work when trying to paint in a different color before the first color is fully dry. The second reason is a thing called solvent entrapment. What that means is simple the vehicle in the first coat of paint is not allowed to evaporate out before it is trapped by the second coat. Which means the first coat is distend to fail. Taking the second coat with it. A loss of cohesion with the surface a great big peeling mess, and a waste of time and money. This is more seen on outside painting projects. But it is never a good idea to rush a job. This also applies to trying to paint over caulking used before they are dry too.

This issue is about mileage. As in try to get more mileage out of the paint and primers. Over watering of the products is not any way to save money. If you want to save money on paint, buy the good stuff. By adding too much water to the paint. It reduces all that it is trying to benefit from like hiding, washing and durably. Which means that we and up putting on more to do the SAME JOB. All the reasons we are using it in the first place and not the cheap stuff.

So far we have covered the don’t, let’s cover a do. Like do wash off anything that looks suspects from whatever it is that you painting. Like Grease, Dirt, hair. These things do not take paint well. Here’s another do. Do pay attention to directing the sunlight when you are working. We need to not to do our painting in direct sunlight .one it’s hot working in the sun, but the bigger reason is it will set our paint up too fast and cause problems. It is most important when doing the fine-cut work on the woodwork.
